Angel Investor

A high-net-worth individual who invests their own money into early-stage startups, often alongside mentoring.

Angel investors back companies at the riskiest stages, typically writing cheques from £5k to £100k+. In the UK many invest through SEIS and EIS to benefit from generous tax relief. Beyond capital, angels often provide expertise, introductions and credibility. They may invest solo or as part of a syndicate or angel network.

Examples

A former founder angel-invests £25k under SEIS into a fintech and joins its advisory board. — An angel network pools cheques from 12 members to fund a £200k pre-seed round.
